Jaya Grocer Launches ‘JS Cage-Free Eggs’ To Advance Animal Welfare

With the introduction of JS Cage-Free Eggs, Jaya Grocer reinforces its role as a forward-thinking retailer committed to innovation, quality, and responsibility.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — Jaya Grocer recently marked a significant milestone in Malaysia’s retail and food sustainability landscape with the official launch of its house brand, JS Cage-Free Eggs, at 1 Utama Shopping Centre.

The event, held under the “Farm to Table 2026” showcase, brought together key industry leaders, partners, and stakeholders in a strong demonstration of commitment towards higher animal welfare standards and responsible sourcing.

The launch was officiated in the presence of Jaya Grocer chief executive officer Daniel Teng, deputy chief executive officer Joseph Teoh, and general manager of private label Sandy Low, as well as Dr Saravanakumar S. Pillai, senior principal, policy and engagement for farm animal welfare, Humane World for Animals.

The ceremony featured a symbolic unveiling of a golden egg, representing a new chapter in ethical food production, alongside interactive displays highlighting the benefits of cage-free systems, where hens are able to roam freely, express natural behaviours, and live healthier lives.

JS Cage-Free Eggs are sourced from farms that adhere to higher welfare standards, aligning with global trends and increasing consumer demand for ethically produced food. The initiative reflects Jaya Grocer’s long-term vision to lead responsible retail practices in Malaysia.

A Jaya Grocer spokesperson stated, “This launch is more than introducing a new product—it represents our commitment to driving positive change across the food supply chain.

“By offering cage-free eggs under our own brand, we are empowering consumers to make more responsible choices while supporting farmers transitioning to improved welfare systems.”

The event also highlighted strong collaboration between retail, producers, and animal welfare organisations. Humane World for Animals is playing a key advisory role in supporting the transition towards cage-free systems, ensuring alignment with internationally recognised welfare benchmarks.

Dr Saravanakumar emphasised, “This initiative is a meaningful step forward for Malaysia. Cage-free systems not only improve the lives of millions of laying hens but also strengthen food quality, sustainability, and public awareness. We commend Jaya Grocer for taking leadership in this important transition.”

The Farm to Table 2026 showcase featured engaging educational visuals, including messages such as “Happy hens roam freely” and insights into cage-free farming practices. Attendees, including corporate partners, suppliers, and consumers, were given firsthand exposure to the brand’s values and product offerings.

The strong turnout of stakeholders reflects growing industry alignment towards ethical sourcing, transparency, and sustainability in Malaysia’s food sector.

With the introduction of JS Cage-Free Eggs, Jaya Grocer reinforces its role as a forward-thinking retailer committed to innovation, quality, and responsibility. This initiative supports broader efforts to transition towards cage-free supply chains in line with global commitments and consumer expectations.”
