SSB Tax Fails To Cut Sugary Drinks Consumption: ISIS Malaysia

ISIS Malaysia says the SSB tax, a volumetric tax system, is largely ineffective in reducing sugary drinks consumption, with a 10% increase in SSB tax reducing purchases by only less than 2%. ISIS also recommends expanding the SSB tax to condensed milk.

Sugary Drinks Tax Revenue Not Earmarked For Health Ministry: Dzulkefly

Dr Dzul says revenue from the sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) excise duty isn't earmarked for MOH as it goes into the consolidated fund, along with other government revenue, as per the Federal Constitution. SSB tax proceeds totalled RM534m from 2019-2025.
