Medical Regulations 2025 Amendments Pivotal For Specialist Training — College Of Physicians Malaysia

The College of Physicians Malaysia describes the Amendments to the Medical Regulations 2025 as a reform of specialist medical training that could not come at a more critical juncture. “The country faces increasing demand for well-trained specialists.”

The College of Physicians Malaysia extends its sincere appreciation to the health minister and the Ministry of Health (MOH) for their decisive leadership and unwavering commitment in advancing the nation’s framework for specialist medical training.

The recent formalisation of the Pindaan Peraturan Peraturan Perubatan 2025 (Amendments to the Medical Regulations 2025) marks a pivotal step forward, paving the way for the gazettement process and full implementation.

We welcome this important development as a timely and strategic move that gives effect to the amended Medical Act 1971, and sets the foundation for a more coherent, transparent, and legally robust approach to specialist training in Malaysia.

The alignment of regulatory structure with the needs of both the parallel pathway and local Master’s programmes will undoubtedly enhance confidence and clarity among trainees, educators, and health care institutions alike.

We commend the dedicated team at the Medical Development Division, MOH, whose diligence and professionalism have been instrumental in bringing this initiative to fruition. Their efforts reflect a deep commitment to building capacity and resilience within Malaysia’s healthcare system.

This reform could not come at a more critical juncture. The country faces increasing demand for well-trained specialists to meet complex population health needs.

Expanding and strengthening training pathways—while upholding the highest standards of safety, ethics, and clinical excellence—is essential for ensuring accessible and quality care for all Malaysians.

The College looks forward to continued collaboration with the MOH and all key stakeholders to ensure that the implementation of these regulatory amendments will be equitable, effective, and truly aligned with the long-term interests of our health care system and the rakyat.
