Hartal Takes Doctor Grievances To Finance Minister’s Office

HDK met with Anwar Ibrahim's pol-sec to raise issues like medical officers' ePlacements and on-call allowance, and the 45-hour work week for nurses and MAs. HDK was told at another meeting with Dr Dzul's aide that MOH won't reinstate Feb 27 ePlacements.

PAC Hears Horror Stories About Health Insurance, Private Hospitals

At a packed town hall in Parliament, the PAC heard dozens of horror stories about health insurance and private health care. Many claimed that their insurers ignored BNM's 10% cap on premium hikes. Others highlighted exorbitant private hospital bills.

Majority Health Insurance Premiums Rose Up To 20% This Year: Bank Negara

Bank Negara and MOF told MPs that premium hikes of <20% hit 61% of revised medical insurance policies this year. Their briefing cited "different and non-transparent" private hospital charges; bills for GL patients ~3-4x higher than pay-and-claim patients.

The Finance Ministry expects increased uptake of health insurance copay products, with more offerings from ITOs and improved consumer awareness. Health care utilisation rates and medical inflation are expected to drop with the adoption of copay products.

Minister Confirms IJN To Switch To Generic Drugs

Dr Dzul says IJN has agreed to switch from innovators to generics. The health minister hopes this will generate "large savings" for the government. IJN's prices for its 10 most prescribed drugs charged to MOH are up to 4,300% higher than MOH procurement.

Health Minister Names EPF Among Rakan KKM Investors

Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad has named EPF as among the investors of the Rakan KKM programme that seeks to set up “premium economy” wings in public hospitals. Dzulkefly says this isn’t a public-private partnership because the investment is from GLICs.

How Much Will It Cost MOH To Continue Funding Pensioners At IJN?

MOH paid IJN Sdn Bhd RM606.5 million in 2023 for some 234,000 visits from 48,000 government-dependent patients. If MOF Inc approves IJN's fee hike of 10-40%, with pensioners set to stay at IJN, MOH may possibly pay RM660 million to RM840 million in 2025.
