The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Schomos is sad to hear about the sudden passing of a house officer in Penang.
We would like to urge the public to refrain from speculating on the circumstances surrounding the incident while police investigations are underway.
MMA president Dr Koh Kar Chai has also issued a statement to urge the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation of the matter.
While the underlying cause has yet to be determined, we have seen numerous anonymous reports of bullying and harassment springing up in the media over the past few days.
MMA Schomos would therefore like to remind doctors of the available sources of support at their disposal:
2. SISPAA by KKM (Ministry of Health)
3. Peer-to-peer support group for HOs (house officers) and MOs (medical officers) (piloted by Schomos Selangor)
4. Schomos House Officers’ Guidebook 2022 — we have dedicated a significant portion of the guidebook to how junior doctors may seek redress when faced with bullying and harassment. All MMA members are entitled to a free copy; please contact your state branch for one.
MMA Schomos continues to explore various means to support our doctors in their time of need. Let us all work together towards creating a safe and pleasant working environment for everyone.
MMA Schomos is the Malaysian Medical Association – Section Concerning House Officers, Medical Officers and Specialists that represents government doctors in Malaysia.
