KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 — The Sarawak state health department (JKNS) launched today a fundraising drive for the families of five people killed in a Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash.
JKNS, which is under the federal Ministry of Health (MOH) and not the state government, said corporate bodies and individuals can send contributions to the bank account of its Kelab Perubatan Sarawak: 1105 9010 0103 82.
“These contributions will be channeled to victims’ next-of-kin by Kelab Perubatan Sarawak, the Sarawak state health department,” said JKNS in a post on its official Facebook page.
“In our grief, let us give sincere contributions to the next-of-kin of the FDS incident victims to lighten their burden and together pray for ease for the affected families. No matter how small your contribution is, it will mean a lot to them.”
Separately, JKNS named yesterday the five victims of the Long Lellang tragedy, including four health care workers from the MOH, in its condolences to their families: Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, Alexson Adit Henry, Debra Moset, and Jessie Paya Jok.
“We lost five health care heroes who were dedicated and committed to their duties for the people’s welfare and health. Their contributions, sacrifices, and services will remain etched in our memories.”
Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad and MOH’s main Facebook page have yet to name or pay tribute to specific victims of the FDS helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, Sarawak last Tuesday.
Yesterday, Dzulkefly told a press conference that the federal government would make ex-gratia payments to the victims’ families, but didn’t specify the amount.
The Sarawak state government yesterday announced donations of RM100,000 to each family of the five victims, besides offering to sponsor their school-going children.
Zainol Afiq and Dr Ainul were from the peninsula, whereas Alexson, Debra, and Jessie were Sarawakians.
