Contract Doctors And Dentists Finally Get Specialist Scholarships

216 contract officers were offered the Program Latihan Kepakaran (PLK) with an MOH scholarship, the first since the introduction of the contract system in 2016.

KUALA LUMPUR, August 30 – Contract medical and dental officers have been awarded government scholarships for specialisation training for the first time since the contract system was introduced in 2016.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced today that 216 contract officers were awarded the Specialist Training Programme (PLK) with a Ministry of Health (MOH) scholarship, about 16 per cent out of 1,347 overall officers who received scholarship awards for the medical specialisation, dental specialisation, and parallel pathway programmes.

“The offer of scholarships for the specialisation study programme through PLK is in line with the Cabinet’s decision to create an equal career pathway between permanent and contract officers,” Khairy said in a statement.

A total of 1,232 medical officers were offered the medical master’s specialist study programme, 54 officers for the dental master’s training programme, and 61 officers for the parallel pathway programme.

Successful applicants can check the eHLP website on the status of their offer of the full-pay study leave (CBBP) with the Hadiah Latihan Persekutuan (HLP) scholarship or the PLK with MOH scholarship.

Applications for CBBP with HLP and PLK with the MOH scholarship for those undertaking the medical specialisation, dental specialisation, or parallel pathway programmes for the 2023/2024 academic session will open in October.
