Over 6,200 Medical Officers Quit From 2021 To 2025: Dzulkefly

6,212 medical officers quit in 5 years from 2021 to 2025, comprising 4,380 contract and 1,832 permanent. Although contract MO resignations have been dropping annually from 2023, resignations of permanent MOs rose every year from 238 in 2021 to 498 in 2025.

Transfer Allowance Opened To Contract Doctors, Pharmacists, Dentists With 2025 Permanent Appointments: Minister

Health Minister Dr Dzul says the 2025 permanent appointments of contract medical, pharmacy, and dental officers are eligible for transfer allowances, calling it a "major policy win". For now, relocation allowances are only available for the 2025 cohort.

Johor Mobilises Contract Doctors Amid HSAJB’s Medical Officer Shortage, Routine ED Diversions

JKNJ is mobilising contract doctors to curb MO shortages in Johor hospitals. HSAJB has been routinely diverting mostly Green Zone cases from its emergency department since July 2025, but Yellow Zone diversions became more frequent since last month.

Only 57% Of Contract Doctors Reported For Duty For Permanent Posts In Sarawak

According to MOH data, only 432, or 57%, of 764 contract medical officers reported for duty for permanent placements in Sarawak this year as of November, indicating that 332 doctors were no-shows or rejected permanent appointment offers.

New ePlacement System To Use Other Algorithms: Dzulkefly

Health Minister Dr Dzul says the new ePlacement system won't be on a first-come, first-served basis, but incorporate other "algorithms" instead to be fairer. The new ePlacement session for the 2,245 affected medical officers will likely be in May or June.

MOH Delays Medical Officers’ ePlacements Again, Cites Cybersecurity Issues

In an email late Sat night, MOH’s BSM announced a postponement of the ePlacement process for the permanent placements of over 2,000 medical officers, which was supposed to open at 3pm today, to three phases from March 25-27. BSM cited cybersecurity issues.

Resignations of specialist doctors from MOH rose by 57% from 229 resignations in 2019 to 359 in 2023. Last year's 359 resignations were more than double the 168 resignations in 2022 and the highest in the past five years since 2019.
