KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 — A 16-year-old girl allegedly fell to her death in Kuching, Sarawak, after the majority in an Instagram poll supported her demise.
New Straits Times (NST) reported that the poll she ran on her Instagram account at about 3pm yesterday before her death last night showed 69 per cent voted for “death” and 31 per cent for “live”, in response to the question: “Really Important, Help Me Choose D/L”. “D” and “L” are believed to refer to “death” and “live” respectively.
The teenager, who reportedly fell from the third floor of a shop lot building in Batu Kawa, Kuching, had also allegedly posted on Facebook: “Wanna Quit F**king Life I’m Tired”.
Her brother found her body on the street by the building at about 8pm yesterday.
NST reported that the girl was disappointed with her stepfather who worked in Singapore as he visited Kuching less frequently after marrying a Vietnamese woman.
“We received a call on the incident at about 8pm from a man who entered a nearby police station, saying an unknown female had jumped off a building and was lying down on the road, bleeding.
“A team of officers rushed to the scene and checks found no bruises or wounds on her body, only severe injuries to her head,” Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan was quoted saying.
The Galen Centre recently rated Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad “F” on mental health work during his first year in office, noting a RM7.93 million reduction in the Health Ministry’s budget for its psychiatric and mental health department this year compared to 2018.
The health think tank said mental illness was expected to be the second biggest health problem in Malaysia by next year.
