Ex-Envoy Dies From Heart Attack

Redzuan served as Malaysian ambassador to Uzbekistan, deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, and deputy high commissioner to the United Kingdom.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 – G25 member and former Malaysian ambassador to Uzbekistan Redzuan Kushairi died today from a heart attack at 69.

National newswire Bernama reported that Redzuan died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) here after he was admitted for a heart attack Wednesday.

“It is a great loss for me, personally. He was my colleague in Wisma Putra as a fellow ambassador, as well as a very highly intelligent and effective person.

“Before the heart attack, he was busy preparing to organise a symposium on Yemen to draw public attention to the suffering of the people there due to the civil war,” Noor Farida Ariffin, spokeswoman of G25, which is a pro-moderation group comprising retired senior civil servants, told Bernama.

Redzuan served as Malaysian ambassador to Uzbekistan from 1994 to 1996. He was also the Malaysian mission’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, and deputy high commissioner to the United Kingdom. He was also a member of the Perak Royal Council.

He leaves behind a wife and child.

Redzuan’s remains will reportedly be taken to the Saidina Umar Al Khattab Mosque in Bukit Damansara and later to the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery for burial.
