Dzulkefly Consulting MOH’s Legal Advisor Over Alleged RM50m Bribe Offer To Zaliha

Health Minister Dr Dzul says he's consulting with MOH's legal advisor after an ex-aide to his predecessor, Zaliha Mustafa, alleged that Zaliha rejected an RM50 million bribe to axe the tobacco GEG. Dr Dzul may issue a fuller press statement in later days.

C4 Demands MACC Probe Into Attempted Bribery Over Tobacco GEG

C4 demands an MACC probe into a claim by Dr Zaliha Mustafa's aide that the then-health minister was offered an RM50 million bribe to scrap the tobacco GEG policy but didn't report it. C4 says failure to report bribe offers is an offence under the MACC Act.

Aide Claims Ex-Health Minister Zaliha Rejected RM50m Offer To Drop Tobacco GEG

Dr Zaliha Mustafa’s aide Sivamalar claims she witnessed the then-health minister rejecting an RM50 million offer to drop the tobacco GEG policy. Sivamalar says they didn’t report the bribe offer to authorities. The GEG was later axed from the tobacco bill.

GATS Malaysia Survey Proves Vape Availability Doesn’t Cut Tobacco Smoking

The 2023 GATS Malaysia survey proves that vape availability does not cut tobacco smoking. Current tobacco smoking prevalence dropped only 4 points to 19% in 2023 from 23.1% in 2011, but dual tobacco/ e-cig users rose to 3.9%. Vape prevalence surged 600%.

Ahead of anti-tobacco regulations expected in June, the Health Inspectors Union Peninsular Malaysia (KIKSM) calls for more PKP/ PPKP positions and tech, as health inspectors still manually write compound notices. KIKSM also wants a new PKP/ PPKP uniform.

New Tobacco Bill Halves Fine For Smoking In Smoke-Free Zones

The Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Bill 2023 tabled today halves the fine for smoking in smoke-free places to max RM5,000 (and no jail) – from the max RM10,000 fine or jail up to 2 years under existing tobacco regulations under the Food Act.
