Cabinet Moots Decoupling ‘Unconstitutional’ GEG From Tobacco Bill, Tabling Likely Next Year

Cabinet has decided to decouple GEG from the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Bill, due to the Attorney-General's advice that the generational tobacco & vape ban is unconstitutional. Bill tabling likely in the next Parliament meeting in 2024.

Zaliha Claims Vape Sold Illegally ‘Without Any Control’ – Even Before Nicotine Delisting

In an Oct 5 affidavit, Dr Zaliha Mustafa claims nicotine vape had been sold widely and illegally, "without any form of control", even before she delisted liquid nicotine. But MOH and police have been seizing nicotine-containing vape liquids since 2015.

A source says the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Bill won’t be tabled for second reading tomorrow. A media briefing and MPs' briefing on the tobacco bill scheduled by MOH in Parliament this afternoon have both been postponed indefinitely.

Malaysia’s Vape Industry Grew 53%, Adult Users Rose 27% – Before Nicotine Delisting

MVCC's 2023 report finds that the retail value for Malaysia's vape market increased 53% to nearly RM3.5 billion in 2023 from 2019; the number of adult vape users rose 27% to 1.4 million in 2022 from 2019. Disposable vape quickly gained market share to 32%.
