Offer Ex-Gratia Payment To Dr Tay’s Family, Kota Melaka MP Tells Government

Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong urges the government to offer a substantial ex-gratia payment to Dr Tay Tien Yaa's family, amid "extraordinary circumstances" surrounding the specialist's death. An ex-gratia payment doesn't require admission of liability.

Doctors Launch Donation Drive After Fire Destroys Klinik Kesihatan Tangkarason In Beluran

The Malaysian Family Medicine Specialists' Association is raising funds after Klinik Kesihatan Tangkarason in Beluran, Sabah, and staff quarters were completely destroyed in a fire. Donations can be made to Bank Kerjasama Rakyat account number 1100482801.

Some QEH doctors oppose MOH’s order to rotate medical officers from other departments, especially non-clinical, to the emergency department’s Green Zone for the new 2-hour waiting time KPI. As some have left clinical work for years, they fear patient harm.

An 18yo died from dengue fever after Tuaran Hospital's alleged misdiagnosis. The teen's father claims a doctor said their son had a common fever, but MOH claims temp check was normal. On 2nd visit, dengue was confirmed, but he died after referral to QEH.

Semporna MP Shafie Apdal says there's only one cardiologist in the whole region of Sabah – in Queen Elizabeth Hospital (HQE), Kota Kinabalu. He also says HQE I, with 700 beds, has to get food supplies from HQE II because HQE I doesn't have a kitchen.

MOH: Pertussis Under Control, This Year’s Cases 53% Lower Than 2019

Health DG Dr Radzi maintains pertussis is under control, as the 329 cases reported this year as of Aug 19 are 52.8% lower than the same period in 2019. 55% of this year's cases were in Sabah, 33% among non-citizens. Vaccine coverage data was not provided.

Hartal Projects Doubled Hospital Waiting Times – Possibly Till June 2024

Due to mass doctor relocations, HDK estimates 50%-100% spike in ED waiting times for admission, particularly in Klang Valley, Melaka, and Negeri. Even if vacancies are filled by Dec, HDK expects the impact to last till June, as floating MOs need training.

In permanent MOs’ placements, Sabah & Sarawak collectively gain net 1,070 MOs, but Klang Valley loses net 360 MOs. Negeri’s HTJ, Melaka Hospital, and Selangor's Sg Buloh, Serdang, and Selayang hospitals get zero MOs, while losing >80 to ~120 doctors each.
