MOH backs a proposed independent housemen recruitment system for uni hospitals. Dr Dzul says housemen placement priority is for MOH, not university hospitals; not all MOH's teaching hospitals (HLS) received HOs. "If HLS are not getting HOs, what more HPU."

Selangor Reps Worried About UMMC’s ‘Zero’ Housemen Problem

Taman Medan ADUN Dr Afif Bahardin, Kampung Tunku ADUN Lim Yi Wei, and Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung are seriously concerned about UMMC's "zero" housemen problem. "The health care system is collapsing and we are refusing to do anything," says Dr Afif.

UMMC Doctors Tout Parallel Houseman System, Full Independence From MOH

To resolve an "extreme" houseman shortage, doctors at UMMC’s medicine department suggest a parallel HO system to MOH and hiring more permanent service medical officers, including a clear pathway to specialisation, so that UMMC can be entirely self-reliant.

Up To 40% Of Doctors Bullied, 60% Of Junior Doctors Overworked: MMA Poll

An MMA survey among 728 doctors from the public and private sectors (two-thirds of whom were MOs) shows 30%-40% across all states reported bullying. Highest number of doctor bullying cases reported in Sarawak. 60% of junior doctors work overtime daily.

HWCITF Was Formed After Houseman’s Death. Now, Two More Health Workers Have Died.

HWCITF issued recommendations last August after the death of a Penang Hospital houseman in April 2022. Since then, two health workers – both in Selangor – died this month. A medical officer says stigma against mental health persists in the health service.

Workplace Violence Against MOH Staff Rose Before Pandemic

Incidents of workplace violence against MOH staff increased by 196% from 167 cases in 2017 to 494 cases in 2019, before dropping to 321 cases in 2020 and 260 cases in 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic.
