KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 — Tunku Azizah Hospital (HTA) has filed a police complaint over an administrative assistant’s alleged scam of nearly 190 house officers out of more than RM47,000.
The government hospital in Kuala Lumpur also confirmed that the admin assistant or pembantu tadbir (PT), who was a personnel of the MyStep government programme, has been terminated.
“This case has been reported to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and a complete investigation is undergoing,” said HTA in a statement today.
“HTA will give full cooperation to the authorities to ensure that investigations are fair and transparent. HTA will never compromise with any staff involved in integrity wrongdoing and any criminal activity that affects staff welfare and the good name of the Ministry of Health (MOH).”
The tertiary hospital providing paediatric and obstetrics and gynaecology services, which is headed by director Dr Shamsul Anuar Kamarudin, added that it has suspended the PT’s access to HTA’s systems and facilities.
“Face-to-face engagement sessions with the affected housemen are also being conducted to hear their complaints, besides collecting complete information on the transactions to assist with further investigations.”
CodeBlue broke the story earlier today about how a 28-year-old N1 admin assistant allegedly defrauded at least 187 house officers in HTA’s paediatric department out of RM47,210 over two and a half years from September 2023 to March 2026.
Based on CodeBlue’s interviews with a dozen victims, the junior female PT allegedly conned trainee doctors through a two-pronged scam: collecting an RM900 “refund” for “overpayment” of emoluments and an RM40 to RM45 “fee” for the compulsory neonatal resuscitation programme (NRP) course.
The low-ranked admin assistant allegedly convinced her coworkers to pay RM900 to her personal account via QR code by giving them a forged document to sign, while her NRP scam involved collecting RM45 payments from groups of housemen simultaneously on orientation day, either by QR code to her personal account or cash.
The 187 housemen paid the PT either RM45 or RM40 each, except one who paid RM120, under the NRP scam, totalling RM8,210. Forty-two of them were additionally hoodwinked by the salary scam, with 40 housemen getting cheated of RM900 each, one of RM1,200, and another of RM1,800, totalling RM39,000.
Most, if not all, of the deceptions and financial transactions allegedly occurred in their workplace at the MOH hospital.
“HTA wishes to stress that no collection of cash or transfers to staff’s personal accounts is permitted for any official business, including the repayment of emoluments or payments for course fees.
“That MyStep personnel was also never given any financial authority by HTA.”
Besides the hospital’s police complaint, CodeBlue reported that victims have filed at least 13 police reports of their own.
