Counsellor With Autism Sues Public Services Commission For Refusing Permanent Position, Allegedly Over OKU Card
Ch'ng Bao-Zhong, a 31-year-old contract counsellor in MOH in Penang with Level 1 autism, has filed a judicial review application against SPA and the government for rejecting his application for a permanent position, allegedly because he holds an OKU card.

There are 9,562 licensed and registered counsellors in Malaysia, of which only 369, or 3.9%, work in MOH, says Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa. The government has extended the contracts of 200 contract counsellors, who were hired in 2020, until Aug 2025.

A counsellor working in a Klinik Kesihatan says counselling services in primary health care settings in MOH to treat mental health will end in a month on Aug 2, as no contract renewals have been announced. MOH hired 200 contract counsellors in Oct 2020.
