KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — Tourism, Arts and Culture Deputy Minister Chiew Choon Man has contributed RM1,000 to each family of five people killed in the Long Lellang tragedy.
Chiew, who is also Miri MP from PKR, said his officer, together with officers from the federal Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) Sarawak, visited the families earlier today.
“Financial assistance of RM1,000 was presented to the families as an immediate gesture of assistance during this difficult period,” said Chiew in a statement.
“I will personally visit the families this Sunday to pay my respects and to discuss what further assistance and support may be needed after the post-mortem and related processes have been concluded. We will continue to stay in contact with the families and assist wherever we can during this difficult period.”
He added that he would “top up” the contributions to the families later.
The five victims of a Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, last Tuesday were pilot Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, medical officer Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, assistant medical officer Alexson Adit Henry, staff nurse Debra Moset, and staff nurse Jessie Paya Jok.
Alexson, Debra, and Jessie were from Miri, whereas Zainol and Dr Ainul hailed from Negeri Sembilan and Kelantan respectively.
