KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced today that results of applications for this year’s Hadiah Latihan Persekutuan (HLP) subspecialty training would be released by June 16.
The ministry stressed that the 2026/2027 intake wasn’t cancelled due to budget cuts.
“For your information, the announcement of the list of successful candidates for the 2026/2027 Subspecialty Programme will be made in June 2026 after all applications received have undergone eligibility screening, evaluation by the respective Programme Heads, and fulfilment of the requirements stipulated in the relevant circulars and regulations currently in force,” the MOH told CodeBlue in a statement today.
“The selection of successful candidates is based on the Ministry of Health’s needs and projected workforce requirements in the respective subspecialty fields.”
The MOH added that results would be out by June 16, some two weeks ahead of the training commencement date that remains on July 1.
CodeBlue reported earlier today queries by several doctors about the delayed results of HLP subspecialty training applications, less than a month before the traditional July 1 intake, as some asked if the programme had been cancelled due to budget cuts.
In a recent letter to CodeBlue, a specialist wrote that administrative uncertainty in medical subspecialty training was very frustrating to specialist doctors in their 30s and 40s, who had young children, ageing parents, mortgages, and professional commitments.
“Many trainees are required to relocate to another state or training centre. They must find accommodation, arrange transportation, organise child care, enrol children in new schools, and plan the transition of their spouses’ employment,” he wrote.
“Existing clinical responsibilities need to be handed over. Research projects and departmental commitments require closure or transfer.”
MOH’s statement today did not explain the reason for the delay in this year’s subspecialty training application results.
