Animal Production, Veterinary Industry Conferences To Merge Under Gavis 2026

Ten annual conferences by associations in the animal production and veterinary industries, traditionally held separately, will instead be combined under the inaugural Gavis 2026 summit from July 21-23 in Putrajaya to save costs and time for participants.

PUTRAJAYA, June 19 — Instead of holding independent annual conferences, associations representing veterinary services, animal production, and the livestock industry will come together under the Global Animal Production and Veterinary Industry Summit (Gavis) 2026 next month.

Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) director-general Dr Mohd Noor Hisham Mohd Haron, who is also Gavis 2026 organising chairman, noted that Malaysia has more than 15 associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in these fields, such as the Malaysian Veterinary Medical Association (Mavma), Malaysian Society of Animal Production (MSAP), Malaysian Association of Veterinary Pathology (MAVP), Malaysian Association of Companion Animal Medicine Industry (Macami), and Asian-Australasian Dairy Goat Network (AADGN), among others.

“The combination of 10 separate conferences under the Gavis platform will save organising and participation costs,” Dr Mohd Noor Hisham told a press conference at Wisma Tani here today.

“Previously, each association would hold its annual conference independently that needed separate payments and lots of time. Now, in a joint conference, participants only need to pay once to access all sessions and channels.

“This approach will save costs and time for industry players and public veterinarians. The cooperation will also amplify the industry voice at the national and international levels.”

Gavis 2026 – with the theme, “One Voice, One Health, One Future” – is organised in collaboration with the DVS, the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT).

The inaugural Gavis 2026 will be held from July 21 to 23 at Putrajaya International Convention Centre. Multiple conferences and technical sessions will run concurrently, covering areas such as:

  • Ruminant production (cattle, goats, and sheep).
  • Non-ruminant production (poultry, ducks, and swine).
  • Companion animal and small animal practice.
  • Animal diseases and diagnostics.
  • Economics, business, and human welfare.
  • Wildlife and exotic animal management.
  • Feed and nutrition.
  • Aquaculture and fisheries.
  • Animal welfare.
  • Zoonotic diseases and One Health.
  • Veterinary education.
  • Food safety.
  • Veterinary regulatory affairs.

In addition, two major symposiums will be organised: Malaysian Animal Welfare Regulatory Symposium and Mavma Veterinary Education Symposium. Furthermore, Mavma, MSAP, and MAVP will hold their annual general meetings during Gavis 2026.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is also expected to deliver a keynote address at the Veterinary Gala Dinner on July 21 to the veterinary and livestock industry.

Gavis 2026 will feature an international exhibition, comprising more than 100 exhibition booths on a wide range of products and services, including veterinary equipment, animal feed, veterinary pharmaceuticals, livestock technologies, automation systems, and industry innovations.

For the general public, they can attend a cat show, a pet adoption programme, industry leaders’ talk series, a premiere screening of the documentary, “World Without Cows”, and various interactive activities.

Admission to the exhibition and pet show activities is free of charge; registration fees apply only to conference participation and professional sessions.

From an academic and technical perspective, Gavis 2026 will feature 108 presenters, including 51 international speakers from China, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines, Australia, India, Japan, Oman, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Scotland, among others.

“The primary objective of Gavis 2026 is to unite veterinarians, animal scientists, livestock producers, researchers, academics, government agencies, and industry stakeholders under a single collaborative platform that will drive the growth and development of the animal industry,” said Dr Mohd Noor Hisham.
