Assunta Hospital Celebrates 70 Years With New O&G Centre

Assunta Hospital celebrates its 70th anniversary with the launch of an Obstetrics and Gynaecology Centre that provides state-of-the-art 5D ultrasound machines. Upon arrival at the centre on Level 4, the process is designed to be hassle-free.

PETALING JAYA, March 19 — In conjunction with its 70th anniversary celebration this year, Assunta Hospital in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, has launched an Obstetrics and Gyneacology Centre.

The Obstetrics and Gyneacology Centre, located on Level 4, is the hospital’s dedication to becoming a one-stop destination for the well-being of women, ensuring a semless and integrated experience with parking facilities and easy access to specialists.

Upon arrival, the process is designed to be hassle-free. Patients can conveniently register, consult with our specialists, and easily collect prescribed medications from the pharmacy – all on the same floor.

At the launch last Thursday, Assunta Hospital CEO Wilson Choo said the hospital’s commitment to the care of patients stems from Assunta Hospital’s humble beginnings that can be traced back to a clinic called Ave Maria in Section 1, Road 4, Petaling Jaya.

“Here, the medical needs of the underprivileged were compassionately attended by four sisters from Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM). Over the years, the hospital has experienced remarkable growth, evolving from a modest clinic into a leading health care institution, all thanks to the generous support of individuals committed to the vision of accessible and quality health care for all,” he said in his speech.

He added that investment in modern technology was vital for diagnoses.

“These advancements, including the state-of-the-art 5D ultrasound machines, available at Obstetrics and Gynaecology Centre, shows our commitment in providing the highest standard of care, while ensuring accurate diagnostics and monitoring for expectant mothers and gynaecological patients.

“We’ve invested in the 3 Tesla MRI, and 640-Slice CT Scan, which allows our specialists with enhanced clarity. We’ve also bought the OPERA Swing, a radiographic fluoroscopic system that offers a comprehensive solution that combines digital radiography and fluoroscopy for efficient examinations.

“With advanced features, this machine allows a smoother process and greater experience for patients. The OPERA Swing features allows us to take crystal-clear pictures while using less radiation – and required time,” he added.

Choo also reflected on the hospital’s legacy, especially with the trust and support of the community over the past seven decades.

“Our legacy reflects the connection that Assunta Hospital created with the people of Klang Valley. This can be traced to our roots back to 1954 when the FMM established this institution with primary mission – to aid the most underserved communities. The Assunta entity encompasses not on the hospital, but also the Tun Tan Cheng Lock College of Nursing and the Assunta Integrated Social Services, or ASSISS, our hospital charitable arm.

“As a not-for-profit institution, we uphold the principles of social entrepreneurship, ensuring our health care services are made affordable to all our patients. Half of our hospital’s profits are reinvested into expanding our facilities and acquiring advanced equipments and technology. This is to ensure that we continuously provide the quality and excellence to our patients.

“The remaining 50 percent of the hospital’s profit is channelled to ASSISS to provide medical care to the underprivileged from economically disadvantaged backgrounds,” he added.

The launch of Assunta Hospital’s Obstetrics and Gyneacology Centre was officiated by Selangor Public Health and Environment State state executive councillor Jamaliah Jamaluddin, who was shown a 5D ultrasound of a baby at a tour of the facility, all available at the same place on Level Four of the hospital.
