No Room For Complacency Over Tobacco Bill – Hartal Doktor Kontrak

Hartal Doktor Kontrak demands passage of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Bill 2023 in the upcoming parliamentary meeting. “It is time to prioritise the health and wellbeing of our beloved Malaysia over industry interests”.

Enough is enough.

Hartal Doktor Kontrak, the unwavering force fighting for medical fraternity reform and the rights of junior doctors, is issuing a stern warning about the stalling of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Bill 2023.

The clock is ticking, and with each passing moment, our nation’s health deteriorates.

Smoking and vaping are wreaking havoc on our people, claiming lives and plunging our health care system into an abyss of preventable illnesses.

Do not ignore the brutal truth: tobacco-related illnesses snatch over 20,000 lives from our grasp every year in Malaysia.

The vaping epidemic is equally dire, getting our youth addicted to nicotine and exposing them to a hazardous path.

Let’s talk numbers. Billions of ringgits are haemorrhaged annually in health care costs, all tied to the grip of smoking and vaping-related ailments. This is not just a health crisis; it’s an economic disaster.

The Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Bill is our lifeline to a healthier, more prosperous future. It targets the post-2007 generation, aiming to break the chains of addiction and secure the health of those yet to come.

We do not ask; we demand. Members of Parliament and the Ministry of Health, there is no room for complacency. Expedite passage of this vital bill through the Dewan Rakyat, Dewan Negara, and seal it with the royal assent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Time is of the essence. Delaying this bill prolongs the agony of our people.

We stand united, unwavering, and unapologetically fierce in our call for action. It is time to prioritise the health and wellbeing of our beloved Malaysia over industry interests.
