Government Pays Over RM127 Million In Covid Death Benefits

The total amount disbursed covers nearly 60% of total applicants.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 – The National Disaster Management Agency’s (NADMA) funeral assistance programme has distributed over RM127.63 million to the next-of-kin of those who lost their lives to Covid-19.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions) Abdul Latiff Ahmad, in a written parliamentary reply on July 18, said a total of 25,526 completed applications had been approved so far by the Covid funeral aid programme, which provides a one-off RM5,000 assistance to family members of Covid-19 victims.

Abdul Latiff said an additional 7,300 applications were being processed, while 1,205 applications had been denied by NADMA. Another 8,899 applications were being queried for incomplete or unclear documentations.

NADMA is actively contacting these applicants for further inquiry, Abdul Latiff said in response to Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai’s question on the amount of financial assistance distributed to families of Covid-19 victims.

Abdul Latiff attributed delays in processing applications for the assistance programme to incomplete applications and inaccurate information provided that prevented payments from being made. Applicants can check their status on NADMA’s portal.
