KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) has detected 4,868 Covid-19 cases this year in 83 clusters in the education sector, Dr Adham Baba said today.

The health minister said the 83 clusters detected from January 1 to April 20 this year comprised 39 clusters with 1,420 infections in Ministry of Education (MOE) schools and institutions, 19 clusters with 1,870 cases in higher education institutions, and 25 clusters with 1,578 cases from other educational venues.

About 59 per cent, or 49 out of the 83 educational clusters, with 2,617 cases are still active.

“Based on risk evaluations by the PKD (district health offices), the need for temporary closure of classes or premises will be considered by the Education Ministry, the Higher Education Ministry, higher education institutes, and all education institutes in joint decision-making,” Dr Adham said in a statement.

Sarawak has closed all schools in red zone areas for 14 days since yesterday, amid a surge of Covid-19 cases in the state.
