Top MOH Officials Hold Town Hall With Disgruntled Health Inspectors

Top MOH officials, including MOH deputy DG Dr Norhayati Rusli, held a town hall meeting in Port Dickson yesterday with health inspectors after health inspectors publicly raised concerns with their career progression in district health offices (PKDs).

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 – Ministry of Health (MOH) officials, headed by deputy director-general Dr Norhayati Rusli, met with health inspectors in Port Dickson on Wednesday to discuss their concerns about career advancement in district health offices.

The town hall meeting was held after this piece by an assistant environmental health officer published by CodeBlue went viral in PKD groups and triggered intense debate between doctors and health inspectors.

In a Facebook post yesterday, the Malaysian Peninsula Health Inspector Union (KIKSM) highlighted the participation of more than 200 health inspectors – both environmental health officers and assistant environmental health officers – from all over the country, including Sabah and Sarawak.

Also in attendance during the session were Dr Zulhizzam Abdullah, deputy director of the Public Health Development Division; Dr Lokman Rejali, senior assistant director (environmental health) for the Negeri Sembilan State Health Department; Dr Esther Rishma Sundram, Port Dickson district health officer; and Ooi Poh Keong, director of Environmental Health Consultancy Division from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.

“Bring back home the message from the Senior Assistant Director (Environmental Health) to all our members; our collective role in the ship that is steered by him is very much needed.

“God willing, the Union (KIKSM) will continue any plan to ensure that the profession of environmental health officers remains relevant in the field of public health,” the post read.
