KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) today announced 354 new Covid-19 cases in the country, with six coronavirus-related deaths of Malaysians from Sabah.
This is the highest daily reported Covid-19 deaths since the first case was reported in Malaysia in January.
As of today, a total of 68 Covid-19 patients are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with 25 under ventilator support. The number of ICU patients has more than doubled, whereas the number of patients on ventilation support has multiplied over six times, compared to five days ago.
On October 4, only 28 confirmed Covid-19 cases were receiving treatment in ICU, with four patients on ventilation support.
Of the six new deaths, four of them had asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure, benign prostatic hyperplasia (swollen prostate gland), and dry cough. The death cases included patients aged 57 to 66.
Another two patients, aged 58 and 68, who did not have any other underlying diseases also have died of Covid-19 today.
Sabah: 274 Cases, 1 New Cluster
Of the 352 local transmissions, 77.84 per cent or 274 cases have been reported in Sabah. A total of 120 cases were reported from close contact screenings whereas other Covid-19 screenings detected 105 cases, of which considered unlinked community cases. The Bangau-Bangau and Pulau clusters reported one case each whereas the Tanamera cluster reported two cases.
The Laut cluster reported four cases and Tujuh Serangkai cluster registered five cases. The Benteng LD cluster registered 13 new positive cases and 22 cases were reported under the Ramai Ramai cluster.
Sabah reported one new cluster today in Kota Kinabalu, which has recorded four new Covid-19 cases so far, including one today. The index case (Patient 12,880) of this cluster was positively identified through a symptomatic screening on October 4.
Following that, a close contact screening has revealed four positive cases and 36 individuals tested negative. The balance nine individuals are still waiting for the test result.
Selangor: 24 Cases
A total of 17 cases from the 24 cases reported in Selangor were identified through a close contact screening. The Benteng PK and Jalan Meru clusters have recorded one case each. Three Covid-19 patients had previously visited Sabah and the registered two unlinked cases, identified through other Covid-19 screenings.
Kedah: 10 Cases
The Tembok cluster recorded seven cases whereas Bah Sintok cluster registered 3 new cases.
Kuala Lumpur: 8 Cases
Five cases, or 62.5 per cent of the cases in Kuala Lumpur, have previously been to Sabah. The Bah Puchong cluster reported one new Covid-19 case today, where a close contact screening and other Covid-19 screenings have detected one case each.
Penang: 8 Cases
The Penjara Reman cluster in Penang has registered seven new cases today, while another case had Sabah travel history.
Johor: 5 Cases
Four of the cases in Johor were identified through a close contact screening, while another case has been to Sabah previously.
Terengganu: 5 Cases, 1 New Cluster
Three cases in Terengganu were reported under a new cluster which was identified in Marang, Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus. The index cases for this cluster (Patient 10,766 and Patient 10,767) were positively identified with Covid-19 upon their arrival from Sabah on September 25.
A close contact screening has reported eight more positive cases, bringing the total cases under this cluster to ten. As of today, a total of 88 individuals have been screened and 34 people have tested negative while 44 individuals are still waiting for the test results.
A close contact screening has reported a positive case in the state, while another Covid-19 patient has been to Sabah previously.
Negeri Sembilan: 4 Cases
The Bah Sintok cluster in the state reported one case today. Two cases were identified in a close contact screening and other Covid-19 screening while another Covid-19 patient has been to Sabah previously.
Putrajaya: 2 Cases
The Selasih cluster reported two cases in Putrajaya.
Labuan: 1 Case
A patient who had a travel history to Sabah was positively tested with the coronavirus in Labuan.
Perak: 1 Case, 1 New Cluster
A new Perak cluster reported one case today. The Bah Lada cluster was identified in Perak Tengah and Hilir Perak districts. The index cases for this cluster (Patient 12,374 and Patient 13,978) have been positively identified with Covid-19 upon their arrival from Sabah on October 3 and 6.
A close contact screening has identified two more positive cases bringing the total positive cases in this cluster to four. A total of 41 individuals have been screened so far and 31 people tested negative. Six individuals are still waiting for the test results.
The six new deaths in the country increased the Covid-19 death toll to 152. A total of 188 patients have been discharged from hospital. That brings the total number of recovered patients to 10,707.
The newly reported cases have increased the active Covid-19 patients in the country to 3,863.
