Malaysia Reports 130 New Coronavirus Cases, 54 In ICU

Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll now is at 26 cases.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 – Malaysia today recorded 130 new Covid-19 cases, a drop from 235 new infections yesterday.

This brings the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 2,161.

“To date, 54 positive cases are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 34 cases are in need of ventilator support,” director-general of health, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.

The number of deaths have also increased by three today, bringing the total to 26 fatalities.

Death number 24 (Patient 1,056) was a Malaysian man aged 35 who recently travelled to Indonesia; death number 25 (Patient 2,032) was a Malaysian man aged 83 who has a history of chronic illness; and death number 26 (Patient 1,321) was a Malaysian man aged 53 who had a close contact with a Covid-19 patient.

On a positive note, a total of 44 patients have been discharged today, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 259 cases.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that as at 12pm today, Kluang, Johor, has reported a total of 88 positive cases, of which 74 are from Kampung Dato’ Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Dato’ Ibrahim Majid di Simpang Renggam, Kluang, Johor.

Both areas have been put under total lockdown under an Enhanced Movement Control Order until April 9, with no one allowed to leave their homes.
