Emergency Doctors Demand Shorter 40-Hour Work Week For Health Workers On Shift

AMM's College of Emergency Physicians (CEP) opposes the new 45-hour work week under SSPA, citing serious safety risks. CEP urges a 40-hour work week cap for health care shift workers (doctors, nurses, AMOs) in intense environments like ED, wards, ICU, OT.

Nurses Actually Work Just 40 Hours Weekly Under SSPA: Minister

Health Minister Dr Dzul says nurses will actually work only 40 hours weekly in the SSPA shift system, as the 45-hour work week includes a daily one-hour break (5 hours a week), compared to the current 42-hour work week when nurses don't get to take breaks.

Six Nurses’ Groups Oppose 45-Hour Work Week Under SSPA Shift System

Six nursing groups – MNU, MNA, DON, INAM, MMN, and MHN – have denounced increasing nurses' working hours to 45 hours weekly in a new shift system under SSPA that comes into effect on Dec 1. A poll among nurses on this issue has over 21,000 responses so far.
