UK Education ‘Important’, Says British High Comm Amid NUMed Limbo

Despite 103 NUMed graduates being stuck in a limbo due to the UK's new medical training law, the British High Commission says the UK will continue to promote UK education in Malaysia because education is an important pillar of the UK-Malaysia relationship.

JSF Cardiothoracic Exam: Singapore Only Recognises Locally Trained Graduates For Specialist Registration

Singapore's JCST told MMC in Feb 2024 that for graduates of JSF exam in cardiothoracic surgery, only those who completed training in Singapore are recognised for specialist registration in Singapore. Candidates from Malaysia may be reviewed case-by-case.

Medical Act Amendments To Be Tabled In Fortnight: Health Minister

Dr Dzul says the Medical Act amendment will be tabled in the third week of the current Dewan Rakyat meeting, aiming to pass it the following week. He adds it's "irresponsible" to question the safety of surgeons, noting there are 35 CT surgeons with FRCS.

Cabinet Discussed MQA-MMC Conflict In Parallel Pathway: Minister

Comms Minister Fahmi Fadzil says today's Cabinet meeting discussed the need to amend an unspecified Act or Acts in the parallel pathway issue. A Cabinet paper will be tabled next week. "The parallel pathway issue involves a conflict between MQA and MMC."

After July 2017, MMC Can’t Recognise New Qualifications Without Accreditation: Paediatric Surgeon

Paediatric surgeon Dr Dayang Anita says there's no problem with "old" parallel pathway programs accepted by MMC, but new ones set up post-2017 after the 2012 Medical Act amendment took effect, as it's these ones that need MMC accreditation and recognition.

IJN's Head of Department of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery told eight FRCS Edinburgh cardiothoracic surgery trainees and grads last Jan to go to UiTM for accreditation and credit transfer, after MMC did not recognise the parallel pathway qualification.
