Health Minister Dr Dzul proposes increasing the tax on sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) to 20% of the retail price from the current 40 sen per litre in MOH’s “War on Sugar”. MOH also suggests reformulating condensed milk, sweetened creamer, and cordial.

Ischemic heart disease (heart attack) led to 20,322 deaths in 2022 in Malaysia, accounting for 16.1% of total medically confirmed deaths. About 65% of heart attack fatalities were in senior citizens aged 60 and above, while 35% occurred in those below 60.
