Act 50 Amendment Bill Decouples MQA From Medical Specialist Training, Empowers Minister To Register Specialist Doctors And Qualifications

The Act 50 amendment bill opens up medical specialist training to non-university entities and removes MQA purview from specialist training/ postgrad medical programs run by non-university entities/ universities for the purposes of specialist registration.

The Unfair Vilification Of The Malaysian Medical Council

MMC was unfairly vilified as the "bad guy" in the parallel pathway conflict. As regulator, MMC was doing its job in upholding the law so it can be confident that any specialist doctor it registers is safe and competent to provide treatment to the public.

JSF Cardiothoracic Exam: Singapore Only Recognises Locally Trained Graduates For Specialist Registration

Singapore's JCST told MMC in Feb 2024 that for graduates of JSF exam in cardiothoracic surgery, only those who completed training in Singapore are recognised for specialist registration in Singapore. Candidates from Malaysia may be reviewed case-by-case.

Malaysian Society Designed Cardiothoracic Parallel Pathway Curriculum With Our ‘Collaboration’: Edinburgh College

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) told MMC in March 2023 that MATCVS, a Malaysian society, designed the cardiothoracic parallel curriculum with its collab. But in an April 2024 letter to Dr Dzul, RCSEd said it had designed the curriculum.

Edinburgh College: We ‘Never Suggested’ Cardiothoracic Parallel Graduates Guaranteed UK Specialist Registration

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh said in a May 15 statement, 2 days after CodeBlue's GMC story, that it "never suggested" successful completion of its exam alone guaranteed entry to the UK specialist register. "Other evidence" must be submitted.

UK Medical Council Denies Recognising FRCS Edinburgh Cardiothoracic Surgery Parallel Pathway Qualification For Specialist Registration

UK GMC says it doesn't recognise the FRCS Edinburgh in Cardiothoracic Surgery qualification for specialist registration; only Intercollegiate exam is approved. GMC omits mentioning JSF exam, simply saying JSCFE and Intercollegiate exams aren’t equivalent.

DAP's Senator Dr RA Lingeshwaran disagrees with UiTM's offer to open up the UiTM-IJN cardiothoracic surgery postgrad program to non-Bumis to resolve parallel pathway non-recognition, saying UiTM must remain Bumi-only but non-Bumi can take parallel pathway.

Prof Raja Amin says UK GMC doesn't give "direct recognition" to FRCS Ed in Cardiothoracic Surgery; screening required before registering as specialists in UK. UK GMC site says Portfolio Pathway is for doctors who "haven’t completed a GMC approved program".
