Ex-MMC member Dr Milton Lum says when MMC updated its NSR Registration Procedures and Guidelines in Nov 2023, the pathway for doctors whose qualifications were not on MMC's NSR list was removed. Prior, these doctors were considered on an individual basis.

A neurosurgeon with FRCS Ireland has filed a judicial review application after MMC rejected his application to be registered as a specialist on NSR due to non-recognition of his qualification. Dr Lu Yeow Yuen, practising in HK, wants to return to Malaysia.

Then-DG Hisham said in 2022 the RCSEd cardiothoracic surgery parallel pathway was co-organised by MOH. "It's quality assured to international standards by RCSEd". He said in 2014 the parallel pathway would halve the time to produce cardiothoracic surgeons.
