Over 2.2 Million Foreigners Fully Vaccinated Against Covid-19

Ministry of Health data shows 1,528 clusters involving the manufacturing sector were reported as of October 10, involving 183,535 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — More than 2.23 million foreign adults have received their full Covid-19 vaccination in Malaysia, with 2.96 million receiving at least a single vaccine dose as of October 11.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Dr Adham Baba said the figures included vaccine jabs carried out by industry vaccination centres (PPV Industri) for foreign workers, under which 1,004,798 workers have received at least one Covid-19 vaccine dose and 946,256 have gotten two vaccine doses.

He said this in response to Johor Bahru MP Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, who asked about the percentage of foreign workers who have been vaccinated and the number of new clusters in the manufacturing industry given their heavy reliance on foreign labour.

Dr Adham said MOH data showed a total 1,528 manufacturing clusters reported as of October 10, involving 183,535 confirmed Covid-19 cases. Out of the total, 253 manufacturing clusters remain active and are currently under surveillance.

“PPV Industri has played a key role in expediting the administering of vaccinations to employees without interfering with the vaccination programme for the general public,” Dr Adham said. The vaccination programme for non-citizens is still ongoing.
