Sungai Buloh Hospital Doctors Going Above And Beyond: All In A Day’s Work — Colin Thong

A man praises doctors in Sungai Buloh Hospital for giving excellent care to his mother, who underwent hip replacement surgery after a fall. “My mum’s case is an example of how doctors in KKM really have patients’ welfare in mind and go above and beyond.”

I’d like to share my story with about how the public health service in Malaysia rises to the occasion, humbly and unceremoniously.

My mother recently fell and became immobile. I brought her to Sungai Buloh Hospital’s accident & emergency on July 16, 2025. She was attended to by doctors and with X-rays, she was diagnosed with a neck of femur fracture; and a recommendation for a hip replacement operation.

She was warded in Ward 5d, a third class ward. On instinct, I wanted my mum to be comfortable for this major operation and to have her upgraded as a first-class paying patient. But the doctors noticed that she qualified for fragility fracture operation, which is public. This helped expedite the operation and also saved us a sum of money.

During her stay, geriatrics observed an infection and recommended that she return home with antibiotics to minimise the risk of potential complications due to her age. The hospital kindly rescheduled her operation date.

We returned two weeks later. The operation went smoothly on August 6, 2025. Post-op, the doctors from radio opened after office hours to accommodate an ultrasound as my mum developed odema; they were worried about a blood clot developing.

My mum’s case is an example of how doctors in Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia really have patients’ welfare in mind and go above and beyond. As we celebrate National Day in a week, I’d like to give a shout out to the heroes of our modern day.

Their genuine unsung nature to help others is quiet and benevolent. We are sometimes blind-sided because of the deluge of modern day information or sometimes misinformation.

My heartfelt thanks to Drs Rubenandran, Abishua and Faiq from Ortho, Drs Radha, Syasha and Tay from Anaes, Drs Emy and Sasha from Radio, Dr Wan Mazlina from Geri, Pharmacy, and Nurses from Ward 5d – ortho.

You are all cemerlang! Please keep up the good work and may the universe take care of you and your families in return.
