Ice Bucket Challenge Returns To Malaysia After A Decade For MND Community

At the Ice Bucket Challenge event, PJ MP Lee Chean Chung announced an RM5,000 donation to MND Malaysia to support MND (motor neurone disease) patients and improving treatment infrastructure at UMMC. Malaysia sees 1,000 new MND cases yearly.

PETALING JAYA, July 9 — The Ice Bucket Challenge made a grand return on June 29, 2024, at Padang Timur, Petaling Jaya, after a 10-year hiatus.

Over 300 participants joined the event, organised by MND Malaysia and Asia Television, to show their support and love.

Notable guests included Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung, Rahang assemblyman Desmond Siau, Kuala Kubu Bharu assemblywoman Pang Sock Tao, Asia Television executive director Leong Wei Ping, musician Chow Kam Leong, and singer Regine Tai.

Lee also announced a RM5,000 donation to MND Malaysia, emphasising his commitment to supporting motor neurone disease (MND) patients and improving treatment infrastructure, particularly at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). He also encouraged other treatment centres to improve their infrastructure. 

Meanwhile, Leong noted the Ice Bucket Challenge’s significant impact on MND research and patient support, while MND Malaysia chairman Benny Ng highlighted that Malaysia sees about 1,000 new MND cases annually.

Proceeds from the event’s registration fees will support MND Malaysia in assisting patients and purchasing medical equipment.
