Covid-19 Rise Spreads Beyond Klang Valley To Melaka, Five States

Covid-19 infections rose in the 43rd epid week (Oct 24-30) in the Klang Valley, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Kedah, Perlis, Pahang, and Labuan from the previous week (Oct 17-23).

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — Covid-19 cases have begun increasing not just in the Greater Klang Valley, but also in Melaka, Kedah, Perlis, Pahang, and Labuan, in the past week from the previous week.

Malaysia’s total new Covid-19 infections nationwide decreased by just 895 cases in the 43rd epidemiological week (October 24 to 30) compared to the 42nd epidemiological week (October 17 to 23), as infections declined from 41,508 to 40,613 cases in that period. This was a reduction of only 128 cases on average per day.  

Weekly new Covid-19 cases in the Klang Valley rose 12.3 per cent from 9,049 cases in the October 17-23 week to 10,163 cases in the past week of October 24 to 30.

According to the CovidNow website, hospital admissions of coronavirus patients in the Klang Valley fell 5 per cent yesterday compared to a week ago. About 58 per cent of non-critical hospital beds are currently occupied in the commercial region comprising Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya.

The intensive care unit (ICU) utilisation rate in the Klang Valley was at 70.6 per cent as of yesterday, exceeding the national average rate of 58.7 per cent.

Melaka ICU Rates Rise To 59%

Weekly new Covid-19 cases in Melaka increased 18.7 per cent from 1,338 cases in the October 17-23 week to 1,588 cases in the October 24-30 week, amid a state election scheduled on November 8 for nomination and November 20 for polling.

According to the CovidNow website, hospital admissions of Covid-19 patients in Melaka increased by 10 per cent yesterday compared to one week ago. Currently, the central state sees a 77 per cent bed utilisation rate of non-critical beds.

The ICU utilisation rate in Melaka was at 58.7 per cent yesterday, showing an upward trend since October 14. 

Kedah Cases, Hospital Admissions Increase

Weekly new coronavirus cases in Kedah rose 13 per cent from 2,454 cases in the 42nd epid week to 2,773 cases in the past 43rd epid week from October 24 to 30.

According to the CovidNow website, Covid-19 hospital admissions in the northern state increased by 14 per cent yesterday compared to seven days ago. Currently, Kedah’s bed occupancy rate (BOR) of non-critical beds is at 75 per cent.

The ICU utilisation rate in Kedah is currently at 39.7 per cent.

Negeri Sembilan Hospital BOR At 75%

Weekly new Covid-19 cases in Negeri Sembilan rose 24.3 per cent from 1,164 cases in the October 17-23 week to 1,447 cases in the past October 24-30 week.

According to the CovidNow website, hospital admissions of Covid-19 patients in Negeri Sembilan rose 21 per cent yesterday compared to a week ago. About 75 per cent of non-critical hospital beds in the central state are occupied. 

The ICU utilisation rate in Negeri Sembilan was at 41.8 per cent yesterday, continuing a rising trend since October 8.

Pahang ICU 47% Occupied

Weekly new coronavirus infections in Pahang rose 10.7 per cent from 1,944 cases in the October 17 to 23 week to 2,152 cases in the past 43rd epid week from October 24 to 30.

According to the CovidNow website, hospital admissions for coronavirus patients in Pahang rose 5 per cent yesterday from a week ago. Currently, Pahang’s non-critical hospital BOR is at 64 per cent.

The ICU utilisation rate in Pahang was at 46.6 per cent yesterday, declining from October 24 after a short rise the previous fortnight. 

Perlis Cases Up 30%

Weekly new cases in Perlis rose 29.8 per cent from 218 cases in the October 17-23 week to 283 cases in the October 24 to 30 week.

According to the CovidNow website, hospital admissions of Covid-19 patients in Perlis increased 12 per cent yesterday from a week ago. Currently, Perlis’ non-critical hospital BOR is at 68 per cent. 

The ICU utilisation rate in Perlis is was at 31.6 per cent yesterday.

Labuan Infections Rise 54%

Weekly new Covid-19 cases in Labuan rose 53.9 per cent from 26 cases in the October 17-23 week to 40 cases in the past October 24-30 week.

However, the small island off Sabah has the lowest incidence rate in the country at seven cases per 10,000 people in the past two weeks. 

The ICU utilisation rate in Labuan was 16.7 per cent yesterday, lowest in Malaysia.
