Malaysia Reports 16th Coronavirus Death, Infection Source Unknown

The Health DG says Covid-19 is already spreading in the community.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) today reported Malaysia’s 16th death from coronavirus involving a 75-year-old man, whose source of infection is still under investigation.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Patient 1,334 was a 75-year-old man with a few chronic diseases who showed symptoms before he was hospitalised at Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tuanku Mizan here on March 16, before he was transferred to Kuala Lumpur Hospital on March 18.

His condition deteriorated and he was put in the intensive care unit (ICU) on ventilator support. The Malaysian man tested positive for Covid-19 on March 21 and died last night.

“The source of his Covid-19 infection is still under investigation,” Dr Noor Hisham said late yesterday.

Dr Noor Hisham told a press conference yesterday that coronavirus is already spreading in the community and that MOH hopes to expand testing capacity to 16,000 tests daily by the end of the month, so that asymptomatic people can be tested, isolated, and treated.
