KUALA LUMPUR, August 15 – Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah lectured surgeons from around the world in Krakow, Poland, about thyroid surgery.
He was invited as the Martin Allgöwer Lecturer at the International Society of Surgery’s (ISS) World Congress of Surgery 2019 from August 11 to 15.
“My lecture topic of choice was on ‘Difficult Thyroid Surgery – Primum Non Nocere’,” Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement released today.
“In thyroid surgery, we must first do no harm, more so in difficult cases and even if we have to take the calculated risk.
“I reiterated that surgery is an important component of primary care and that there is no universal health coverage without access to safe and affordable surgical and anaesthesia care.”
ISS is the world’s oldest international surgical society based in Basel, Switzerland.
