The Health parliament committee demands "standardised" charges for medical treatments to address disparities in private hospital bills, urging the fast-tracking of DRG payment models. They also support Bank Negara's copayment mandate for health insurance.

Government Bulldozes Drug Dependants Bill Through After Select Committee Referrals

The government today bulldozed the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Amendment Bill 2024 through in the Dewan Rakyat, which passed in a voice vote, after Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he spoke to the Health and Security PSSCs.

Medical Act Amendments To Be Tabled In Fortnight: Health Minister

Dr Dzul says the Medical Act amendment will be tabled in the third week of the current Dewan Rakyat meeting, aiming to pass it the following week. He adds it's "irresponsible" to question the safety of surgeons, noting there are 35 CT surgeons with FRCS.

After an MMC briefing on April 23, the Health parliament special select committee says: “The issue is that the recognition of the parallel pathway does not comply with current regulations, even as the process of producing specialists is already underway.”

Tobacco Bill Passed At The Cost Of GEG And Democracy

Despite a fractious debate by 27 MPs, the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Bill 2023 was passed by the Dewan Rakyat today, after the government arbitrarily dismissed the 736-page report and work of the Health PSSC that had worked on the bill.

Dr Dzul: AGC Reps Never Raised Tobacco GEG ‘Unconstitutionality’ In Health PSSC

Health PSSC chair Dzulkefly Ahmad says AGC reps, who attended select committee proceedings on the tobacco bill "almost all the time", never raised constitutionality issues with the GEG. These reps included senior AGC officials from the drafting division.

Galen Centre says MOH's legal advisor/ AGC reps were asked in PSSCs about the constitutionality of GEG. "If there was any consistency to be had, it was the continued assurance from the legal side that the GEG provisions were on the right side of the law."
