Cabinet Discussed MQA-MMC Conflict In Parallel Pathway: Minister

Comms Minister Fahmi Fadzil says today's Cabinet meeting discussed the need to amend an unspecified Act or Acts in the parallel pathway issue. A Cabinet paper will be tabled next week. "The parallel pathway issue involves a conflict between MQA and MMC."

After July 2017, MMC Can’t Recognise New Qualifications Without Accreditation: Paediatric Surgeon

Paediatric surgeon Dr Dayang Anita says there's no problem with "old" parallel pathway programs accepted by MMC, but new ones set up post-2017 after the 2012 Medical Act amendment took effect, as it's these ones that need MMC accreditation and recognition.

UK Medical Council Denies Recognising FRCS Edinburgh Cardiothoracic Surgery Parallel Pathway Qualification For Specialist Registration

UK GMC says it doesn't recognise the FRCS Edinburgh in Cardiothoracic Surgery qualification for specialist registration; only Intercollegiate exam is approved. GMC omits mentioning JSF exam, simply saying JSCFE and Intercollegiate exams aren’t equivalent.

The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) tells UiTM to open its cardiothoracic surgery postgrad programme to non-Bumi students "in the best interest of the health of the population". MMA points out that UiTM has a postgrad programme for international students.

Ex-Health Minister Dr S. Subramaniam maintains that the parallel pathway isn't illegal, explaining the historical context and how the NSR only came in 2017. "All these years, MMC members were recognising it. Suddenly, MMC members now don’t recognise it."
