DBKL, Global Urban Network Exploring Tobacco Display Bans In KL

The Partnership for Healthy Cities, a global network of 74 cities, says that it is working with DBKL to explore a ban on display of cigarettes and tobacco products at the point of sale in Kuala Lumpur. By-laws can be enacted before awaiting federal action.

Health Minister Dr Dzul is seeking Cabinet approval for proposed regulations under the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024. The Act, which has been gazetted, will then be enforced simultaneously with the enforcement of the regulations.

The Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852) was gazetted on Feb 2, but it's not yet in force. Section 1(2) says that the Act comes into operation on a date to be appointed by the Minister. MP Wan Saiful calls for vape regulations.
