Anti-Smoking Act Enforcement Delayed Yet Again – To End 2024 ‘Hopefully’

Dzulkefly Ahmad announces yet another delay in enforcing the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act, now to end 2024 – one year since Parliament passed the bill in Dec 2023 and nearly two years since liquid nicotine was deregulated on March 31, 2023.

Mall Shuttered Vape Vending Machine Out Of ‘Social Responsibility’: MOH

MOH says a mall in KL followed its advice in a visit to close down a vape vending machine as a "social responsibility". MOH also says Act 852 regulations, which are currently being drafted, include proposed prohibitions on tobacco/ vape vending machines.

Galen Centre Disappointed With Government’s Broken Promise To Earmark Vape Tax Revenue For Health

The Galen Centre is disappointed that the government broke its promise to earmark half of vape liquid tax revenue for health, with all the funds going to the Federal Consolidated Fund instead. The earmarking was pledged in exchange for not banning vape.

RM141 Million In Vape Liquid Tax Revenue Collected Since 2021, Not Earmarked For Health

RM141.1 million in vape liquid tax revenue has been collected since 2021, comprising RM82.5 million (non-nicotine) and RM58.6 million (nicotine). The finance minister says this tax revenue isn't earmarked for health, but goes to federal consolidated fund.

The Partnership for Healthy Cities, a global network of 74 cities, says that it is working with DBKL to explore a ban on display of cigarettes and tobacco products at the point of sale in Kuala Lumpur. By-laws can be enacted before awaiting federal action.
