Expedite Intake For Permanent Positions For Reserve Pharmacists, Dental Officers — Pharmacist

We hope the authorities can expedite the intake for permanent positions for contract pharmacists and dentists and provide clarity on the status of those who are still waiting. Some 350 pharmacists are on the reserve list; validity ends on Oct 20, 2026.

No Extension For Contract Pharmacists, Applications Open End 2027: MOH

MOH says there are no contract extensions for over 40 pharmacists who lost their jobs last Saturday because they reached their max 5-year contract duration. They may reapply in more than one and a half year's time when permanent recruitment opens end 2027.

Consider interim contract extensions for affected pharmacists, pending the issuance of formal appointment letters, to prevent disruption of services and avoid premature workforce attrition. Many of the affected pharmacists have served for several years.

Senator RA Lingeshwaran says delays in permanent appointments are pushing pharmacists out of MOH. Of 352 reserve candidates awaiting posts, 209 have left. He warned MOH cannot keep a “wait for vacancies” hiring model if it drives talent to the private sector.

MOH says contract pharmacists, including the 700 over who lost their reserve status, can apply for permanent positions as the ministry plans to reopen intakes in 2026, subject to the availability of new or vacant posts and approval of establishment.

MOH is offering interim contracts to 3,950 doctors, dentists, and pharmacists, including 3,200 for medical officers. Eligible candidates include those still serving MOH, and those who completed max length of contract, rejected previous offers, or resigned.

Just like over 1,000 contract doctors from the Oct 2 batch, over 400 contract pharmacists have been ordered by MOH to tender their resignations, effective Dec 18, when they report for duty in permanent posts, making them ineligible for relocation claims.
