The Galen Centre calls for law reform, after a Melaka court sentenced a 21-year-old woman to jail for self-managed abortion. Abortion has been lawful in Malaysia since 1989 when Section 312 of the Penal Code was amended to allow termination of pregnancy.

NHMS Survey: One-Third Of Sexually Experienced Malaysian Teens Had Sex Before Turning 14

MOH's NHMS 2022 survey shows that one-third of Malaysian teens aged 13 to 17 who have ever had sex engaged in sexual activity before turning 14. Three quarters are sexually active, 88% don't use condoms/ any birth control, and 11% have multiple sexual partners. The age of consent for sex is 16.
