MPS suggests integrating community pharmacies into MOH's new emergency triage system for government hospitals, in which less urgent or routine cases with minor ailments can be referred to participating community pharmacists for assessment and management.

Pharmacies Barred From Blood Taking, Says Health Ministry

MOH says blood taking is not permitted in community pharmacies because phlebotomy is a clinical procedure that can only be carried out in licensed health care facilities under Act 586, adding that it will continue to strengthen enforcement.

The govt broke its pledge to extend the drug price display grace period until a judicial review outcome. MOH and KPDN announced compounds for repeat offences from Oct 1, 2025, and full enforcement from Jan 1, 2026, as there's no court order for a stay yet.

MOH says it proceeded with drug price display because majority stakeholders in a UPC poll back price transparency, overriding the minority of HCPs. Even then, though most medical clinics and hospitals oppose it, dental clinics and pharmacies are in favour.

Failure To Display Drug Prices Punishable With Maximum RM100,000 Fine

The drug price display order under KPDN for private health care facilities and pharmacies has been gazetted and is effective May 1. Contravention is punishable with max RM100,000 fine (for body corporate). There is a 3-month educational enforcement period.

Drug Price Display Increases Admin Burden On Pharmacies

MCPG says drug price display will create an unnecessary and expensive workload for private community pharmacies, as medicine prices may change daily. Displaying drug prices with an RM300 electronic tablet will be costly if a pharmacy has multiple outlets.
