KUALA LUMPUR, August 2 — The federal government has permitted all states to allow senior citizens to walk in for their Covid-19 jabs without prior appointments, Vaccine Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said today.
“To date, over 95 per cent of the country’s elderly population have registered for Covid-19 vaccination. Therefore, the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) has decided today to extend the walk-in option, especially for the elderly, across all states beginning next week.
“Some states have started, and other states will prepare to receive walk-ins for all elderly individuals who have not received their first vaccine dose at various PPV locations within each state,” Khairy told a media briefing today.
He said each state will decide on the implementation date of the walk-in programme as well as provide a list of PPVs that will accept walk-ins of people aged 60 and above. Khairy stressed that the walk-in option applies only to those who have not received their first-dose vaccine appointment dates. Details on the second-dose appointment will later be updated on the MySejahtera app.
In the Klang Valley, nine PPVs have been designated as walk-in PPVs for local citizens aged 40 and above or individuals with comorbidity who have not received a vaccine appointment. Walk-ins opened from 2pm today on a first-come, first-served basis.
The initiative, which will run until August 22, is for the administration of the first-dose of vaccination and does not apply to individuals wishing to obtain a second vaccination dose.
“I would like to emphasise that the walk-in initiative in the Klang Valley is only for residents residing in the Klang Valley,” he said.
