Umno Leader In KL Contracts Covid-19 After Sabah Campaign

Sabah has recorded 641 Covid-19 cases in the past 14 days, since September 9.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 — Umno Youth deputy chief Shahril Hamdan has tested positive for Covid-19 in Kuala Lumpur after returning from campaigning in the Sabah state election.

Shahril, who did the Covid-19 test voluntarily, said he did not show any major symptoms of the disease.

“Covid+. No obvious symptoms except feeling tired. Decided to test yesterday in KL for prudence after case spikes as I had been campaigning in Sabah. Just received a call and will be taken in today. I’m sorry for the inconvenience this will cause people who came into contact,” Shahril tweeted today.

It is to be noted that Umno supreme council member Mohd Razlan Rafii also tested positive for the virus in an antigen rapid test in Sabah, after reportedly campaigning in Sipitang. He has been admitted in Kota Kinabalu hospital and is waiting for the second swab test results to confirm the Covid-19 infection.

Shahril and Razlan were among the Umno members who were campaigning in Sabah for the state election.

At the same time, a staff of United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd who visited Sabah has contracted Covid-19. The employee had been to Lahad Datu and Semporna from September 10 to 13 and tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the bank.

Following that incident, the bank has closed its Kepong branch temporarily, which indicates that Kuala Lumpur has recorded a new Covid-19 case.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Health (MOH) identified the seventh Covid-19 cluster so far in the state of Sabah that heads to the polls this Saturday.

So far, Sabah has recorded 641 Covid-19 cases in the past 14 days, since September 9. Of them, 631 cases were local transmissions and the balance 10 cases were imported cases.
