The Academy of Medicine of Malaysia (AMM) welcomes Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad’s announcement about the Medical Regulations 2025 (Amendment) and the enforcement of the Medical Act (Amendment) 2024 (Act A1729), which marks a significant step forward in strengthening the framework for postgraduate medical training in Malaysia.
After much effort and continuous advocacy, AMM is heartened to witness a decisive outcome that reflects our shared goal of ensuring safe, high-quality, and equitable specialist care for Malaysians.
We commend the clarity and fairness these amendments bring to the recognition and registration of specialists, including those who were previously practising in a regulatory grey area.
This move establishes consistent competency standards across all training pathways and ultimately enhances access to expert care nationwide.
We are optimistic that the implementation of these reforms will result in a more organised, transparent, and legally sound Parallel Pathway for specialist training.
We also trust that the challenges previously associated with this issue will be effectively addressed under the revised regulatory framework.
As a professional body representing medical specialists, AMM remains committed to collaborating with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and all relevant stakeholders to uphold excellence in postgraduate medical education.
We will continue to support the expansion of specialist training to meet the nation’s evolving healthcare needs, without compromising patient safety or the quality of care.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the MOH, regulatory bodies, professional societies, academic institutions, and all parties involved in achieving this milestone.
Together, let us move forward in safeguarding the highest standards of medical practice.
