Subang Jaya Medical Centre Sets Regional Benchmark With Four Internationally Certified Centres of Excellence

SJMC is the 1st private hospital in Asia Pacific to hold 4 Centre of Excellence certifications from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International for cardiology, gastroenterology, paediatrics & oncology—proving its commitment to improvement.

SUBANG JAYA, March 12 — Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) has become the first private hospital in the Asia Pacific region to hold four Centre of Excellence (CoE) certifications from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI).

The latest recognition, awarded for its cardiology, gastroenterology, and paediatric services, adds to its oncology certification received last year. The accreditation is granted to hospitals that meet international standards in patient care, safety, and clinical quality.

SJMC was evaluated under ACHSI’s EQuIP7 hospital standards, a globally recognised framework for quality and safety, as well as the Advanced Person-Centred Systems (PCS) Module, which ensures that care is built around patient needs and experiences, with patients as partners at the centre of care design.

The assessment process also measures SJMC’s performance against international benchmarks. By meeting these high standards, SJMC reaffirmed its position as a leader in Malaysian and regional health care.

At the ACHSI certification presentation ceremony, SJMC CEO Bryan Lin said the achievement was “a testament to the unwavering dedication, expertise, and commitment” of the hospital’s team.

“To our doctors, nurses, specialists, and support teams, this achievement indeed belongs to you,” Lin said. “This milestone is especially meaningful as it coincides with our hospital’s 40th anniversary. For four decades, SJMC has grown from a humble community hospital in Subang Jaya to a leading health care provider in the region.

“This certification is not just a reflection of the legacy that we have built, but a recognition of our present capabilities and the future we continue to shape.

“We are proud to lead the way as the first private hospital in the Asia Pacific region to receive four ACHSI Centre of Excellence certifications. This certification is more than an accolade—it is a commitment to continuous improvement, to pushing boundaries in medical advancement, and to ensuring that every patient who walks through our doors receives world-class treatment with complete peace of mind.”

‘More Than An Award’

ACHS International and Consulting executive director Louise Cuskelly said the certification was not just an award, but proof of SJMC’s commitment to quality improvement.

“That’s very evident in what the assessors came back and mentioned to us. There’s a great deal of focus here on quality, safety, and person-centered care. Achieving Centres of Excellence means undertaking a fairly rigorous and structured evaluation process against global best practices.”

“It requires demonstrating leadership in clinical outcomes, patient safety, governance, and innovation.”

Cuskelly said achieving Centre of Excellence status was about more than just meeting international standards—it was about exceeding them. “It represents global recognition of SJMC’s commitment to best practices and continuous improvement in health care. It’s a promise to patients that safety, quality, and innovation remain at the forefront of your focus”

SJMC is a finalist for the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council’s Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital Programme 2023–2025, aimed at positioning Malaysia as a global health care travel destination. The hospital serves both local and international patients, recording over 47,000 admissions and nearly half a million outpatient visits annually.
