KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 — February 15, 2025 was an auspicious day for MND Malaysia (Persatuan Penyakit Motor Neuron Malaysia) and family members, who gathered at the Seventeen Mall, Petaling Jaya for a cheque presentation event.
They expressed their gratitude and appreciation to an anonymous donor for his RM100,000 donation to MND Malaysia.
An 82-year-old philanthropist, who wished to remain anonymous, left a lasting legacy by donating the sum to MND Malaysia before his passing in 2023. His niece, Ms L, fulfilled his final wish by entrusting the donation to MND ambassador Tan Shu Hua, founder of the “OK I Love U” Facebook page.
Ms. L was inspired by Tan’s resilience and MND Malaysia’s efforts to support MND patients. The donation will aid the society’s initiatives, including providing medical devices, providing caregiver services, and funding community programmes and activities to improve patients’ quality of life.
Benny Ng, MND Malaysia Society chairman, called the generous donation a “shot in the arm” that helps to reaffirm MND Malaysia’s mission. Tan, meanwhile, emphasised the significance of trust and love behind the gesture, hoping that it will inspire long-term public support for MND patients.
MND, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a rare, incurable neurodegenerative disease that progressively robs patients of movement, speech, swallowing, and breathing functions, often leading to paralysis.
Most patients only survive two to five years post diagnosis, with no effective treatment available. Click here for more information or visit MND Malaysia’s Facebook page.
