Owen Mumford Partners With Diabetes Malaysia To Support Underprivileged Diabetes Community

This collaboration reinforces a shared commitment to improve access to essential diabetes care products, education, and support for underprivileged Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes patients.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 – Owen Mumford Malaysia and Diabetes Malaysia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at enhancing diabetes care and support for the diabetes community across Malaysia.

This collaboration reinforces a shared commitment to improve access to essential diabetes care products, education, and support for underprivileged Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes patients.

The MoU was officially signed by Shirley Loh, regional managing director of Owen Mumford Malaysia and Dr Mohazmi Mohamed, general secretary of Diabetes Malaysia, at Diabetes Malaysia headquarters on January 11, 2025.

Owen Mumford has pledged to donate 1650 boxes each of Unifine Pentips pen needles for insulin injection and Unilet Excelite lancets for self-glucose monitoring annually to the needy patients registered with Diabetes Malaysia.

In addition to the product sponsorship, Owen Mumford Malaysia will volunteer at health screenings and events organized by Diabetes Malaysia where two parties will collaborate on diabetes awareness campaigns.

Diabetes Malaysia will also be offering Owen Mumford products at subsidised prices to its members, ensuring greater access to essential diabetes management tools.

“We hope that this collaboration enables better health outcomes by bridging gaps in diabetes care. As a B Corp-certified company, we are deeply committed to balancing business success with making a meaningful impact on the communities where we operate.

“Together with Diabetes Malaysia, we aim to improve the lives of those living with diabetes in Malaysia,” said Loh.

In his speech, Dr Mohazmi shared: “With 3.6 million Malaysians aged 18 years and above suffering from diabetes, effective management requires monitoring devices and insulin injection needles.

“These devices, not freely available at government facilities, cost an average of RM168 per person for three months. Diabetes Malaysia supports those in need through the Diabetes Malaysia Children and Adults Fund, currently assisting 150 children and 300 adults across several states.

“The rising demand underscores the urgent need for additional funding. Owen Mumford’s support will enhance diabetes management for underprivileged patients and raise awareness through joint events and campaigns.”

The MoU signing event was attended by key representatives from both organisations, alongside industry peers and friends from various health care organisations.

Members of the Children and Adults Funds, including children and adults with diabetes, also participated. Highlights included a diabetes management talk by Dr Sukhbinder Singh from Medic Skills, interactive children’s games, and a children’s group dancing session.
