I am writing as a concerned member of the public in response to a letter written by a medical officer at Sibu Hospital to CodeBlue titled “Help, I’m Forced To Work Every Day”.
While the officer highlighted certain grievances, I believe the situation on the ground often paints a different picture.
In my observation, it appears that some medical officers may prioritise their personal comfort over the welfare of their patients. Rather than addressing the concerns and needs of patients, there are instances where patients are redirected or dismissed prematurely, leaving them feeling neglected and unsupported.
Such actions, whether intentional or not, create the impression that the focus is more on reducing workload than providing proper care.
Health care is undeniably a demanding field, but the commitment to patient welfare should always remain at the forefront. It is disheartening to witness situations where patients are made to feel like a burden or are denied the comprehensive attention they deserve.
These actions not only compromise the trust between patients and health care providers, but also tarnish the reputation of the institution as a whole.
The letter shared by the medical officer raises questions about systemic challenges, but it also seems to deflect attention from the responsibilities of individual practitioners.
Instead of publicly airing grievances, it would be more constructive for medical officers to focus on improving their own practices and fostering a patient-first approach within their workplace.
Lastly, I would urge CodeBlue to exercise caution in publishing such letters. Allowing medical officers with personal grievances to share these views publicly can taint the platform’s credibility and misrepresent the situation.
It is vital that such letters be thoroughly vetted to ensure they reflect balanced perspectives and do not undermine public trust in our health care system.
